Introduction
About this Recipe
When you never had digestive issues before bariatric surgery, it can be a complete turnaround when you can’t tolerate certain foods any longer once you’re post-op.
The “upside” of food intolerances is that it functions as a reason to stop eating certain foods that may not support your nutrition goals any longer. The “downside” is that you may develop a food intolerance against the nutritious foods too!
We’re not villainizing bread (or carbs for that matter). But we have to be realistic. Bariatric surgery may cause digestive issues when eating starchy foods, like bread.
And that’s why we turned a traditional cheeseburger into this simple salad.

Ingredients
- 1/6 lbs (75 g) lean ground beef
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 2 lettuce leaves, chopped
- 4 cherry tomatoes, halves
- 1 small gherkin, chopped
- 2 tbsp cheddar cheese, shredded
For the sauce:
- 1 tbsp low-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1 tsp vinegar
If you can’t tolerate ground beef, try ground turkey or ground chicken instead. And if you’re sensitive to lettuce, you may want to omit the greens altogether. Always adjust the portions and ingredients to your own needs and guidelines!
Instead of mayonnaise we’re making a sauce based on Greek yogurt. It’s higher in protein and lower in fat too! This salad tastes best when served immediately.
